Mycro Indoor Leagues

Very large crowds attended the Sports hall In St.Anthony’s School on Saturday 28th February to witness the 2009 Finals of the Blackrock Mycro Indoor Hurling Leagues.

First up was the Contenders Finals and in spite of a draw in the Final, the Buzzards were deemed victorious due to goal differences in the earlier round of games. Programme for Final Round Sat Feb 28th

The Challengers Finals saw the Vultures emerge from the flock to claim victory ahead of the Hawks and the Harriers.

The Champions Final came down to the Falcons and the Condors, however the Condors justified their top of the table position by taking the honours in a hard fought final.

 Coiste oiliuna Inter City Blitz

Three teams took part in the Coiste oiliuna Inter City Blitz held in Cork at the weekend. Once again every boy got several games of hurling and all were very happy with the outcome. We would like to thank Coiste Oiliuna, especially Kevin O’Callaghan for organising this excellent event.

Mick Cashman Cup Finals.

These finals were played off at Church Road on Saturday 20th September in brilliant Autumnal sunshine. The Plate final was an absolute thriller with Ballinhassig just edging out a very game Eire Og team on the scoreline of 3 – 1 to 1 – 2. Ballinhassig were the very first winners of the Mick Cashman Cup when it was first launched 6 years ago.

The Cup Final brought together the two Blackrock teams who had victory over the Sarsfields teams in the semi final. To be fair, due to a clash of fixtures Sars could not field their full under 10 teams teams, but to their absolute credit the club fulfilled both fixtures with excellent teams who were a credit to the new County champions.

The Rockies edged out Blackrock in a pulsating Cup Final and Captain Mark O’Leary was one proud young man as he received the prestigious trophy on Saturday evening.

Mick Cashman Cup.

The grounds at Church Road were packed to the rafters on Saturday 14th June for the inaugural blitz of the 2008 Mick Cashman Cup. Eight teams involving approx 150 ten year old hurlers are participating this year, with two teams from St Finbarrs, Sarfields and two from the home club, Blackrock. Ballinhassig and Eire Og are supplying teams also.

After a great morning's hurling honours were split about even across the board. The sole purpose of the competition is to provide games for the young hurlers with every boy being given a chance to become involved in a team against boys of equal ability. Sitting on the sideline is not an option. Blackrock would like to thanks all the teams and their mentors for entering into the spirit of the occasion. The Mick Cashman Cup Roadshow now goes onto Sarfields on Saturday 21st where a further blitz will take place.
