Feile Report 2005

Feile na nGael report.

Following an incredible weekend Blackrock contested the All - Ireland feile final on Sunday last in Pairc Ui Chaoimh for the first time in 34 years. Unfortunately the young Rockies lost out to three late goals from a really good Kilmacud Crokes outfit.

The weekend commenced on Friday afternoon with an outstanding win over our guests Eire Og from Ennis on the scoreline of 3 --- 7 to 2 --- 0 with captain David Healy bagging 3 --- 4 . This was an excellent display as Eire Og are a fine hurling team and afterwards won their two remaining games.

Saturday

We went to Togher on Saturday where despite a fine display from the Rockies a last minute goal from St Rynaghs resulted in a one point defeat on the scoreline of St. Rynaghs 3 --- 1 Blackrock 1 --- 6. Blackrock had to immediately recover and play an improving St. Finbarrs side. It was very even in the first half with Blackrock just two points ahead a half time. The Rockies then picked it up in the final period and ran out winners on the scoreline 4 --- 6 to 1 --- 4 although the Barrs fought to the end.

Rocky supporters then had to endure a nail-biting final game between St.Rynaghs and Eire Og, however the Clare Champions ran out 6 point winners and so Blackrock was off to Fermoy for the semi-final against Mallow on Saturday evening in the Semi-Final. This turned out to be a gripping encounter with an excellent Mallow outfit making a late burst to close the final gap to just two points 2 --- 5 to 1 --- 6. Michael Aherne and David Healy scored the goals for the Rockies.

All-Ireland Feile Final.

Pairc Ui Chaoimh hosted the All -Ireland Feile final. With six minutes to go the scores were level at 1 --- 4 each. However 3 late goals from the Dublin champions sealed victory and so it was not to be for the brave Rockies who had given everything over the three days. The final scoreline of 4 --- 4 to 1 --- 4 did not reflect the very close nature of this game, as it could have gone either way for so long. Congratulations to the Kilmacud Crokes team and it is the fervent wish of the Blackrock club that this victory may spark a renaissance in Dublin hurling.

No one could ask for more from this Blackrock panel or from the mentors and coaches. It was a great honour to represent ones club in an All-Ireland Feile final and in the fullness of time these disappointed Rockies will realise this.

Blackrock Juvenile Chairman Eamonn O' Donoghue was very happy with the huge effort put in by everybody at the club.

"It was a weekend to remember, all the members, parents who helped, our friends from Eire Og were absolutely fantastic and a huge effort was put in to keep the show on the road. Although very much outsiders at the beginning of the Feile, Blackrock contested the final and came quite close to ultimate victory. We are very very proud of the boys themselves who displayed great maturity and we are grateful to the superb management of the team. I think everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience. "

Many of these boys are also playing in the Feile football finals with St. Michaels in two weeks time in Limerick so hopefully they can go one better.
