Senior Hurling League 2006 Round 3

Evening Echo Senior hurling league.

at Church Road Thursday 20th April.

Blackrock 0 --- 13 Erin's Own 1 --- 6.

Despite the heavy rain this was a good game of hurling and provided great entertainment for the crowd. Blackrock continued on their winning way with a solid display to complete three wins on the trot. Initially it looked as if Erin's Own would be difficult to overcome as despite playing into the wind, they raced ahead with three points from Kieran O'Leary and Owen Murphy. However Fergal Ryan, who is really enjoying his hurling at present, then moved to mark O'Leary and in the process curbed the Erin's Own attack. John Browne also marked Brian Corcoran closely.

The Rockies then took complete control for the rest of the first half and fired over seven points with Fergal Ryan pointing a long distance free, Adrian Coughlan pointing two frees and Colin O'Reilly bagging another two from play along with Colin O'Leary and Brian O'Keefe to leave it 0 --- 8 to 0 --- 3 at half time.

Following a foul on Brian Corcoran, Owen Murphy fired the free to the net to put the Glounthaune side right back in the game. A great battle for supremacy then took place the Murphys, Eoin and Fergus adding three points to replies from Colin O'Leary and Adrian Coughlan. With just three points in it Blackrock keeper Frank Barry brought off a tremendous save to ensure the points stayed in Church Road. Substitute Barry Hennebry put over the final point at the end to seal a fine victory.
