Senior Hurling League 2006 Semi-Final

Semi Final 2006 Evening Echo Senior Hurling League.

Played at Pairc Ui Rinn Monday 2nd April 2007.

Blackrock 1 - 18 Erin's Own 0 - 12

Under lights before a large crowd on a perfect evening, this game had even a hint of Championship bite about it. The Rockies led from start to finish and except for a 15 minute spell in the early second half were always in command.

The first half saw the Church Road outfit at their best with points going over from all angles as the Rockies dominated proceeding. Their half back line of Fergal Ryan, Joe Young and Wayne Sherlock were completely on top and provided the platform for ultimate victory.

Wayne was back to his best, especially in the one on one situations in which he thrives, he was simply unbeatable. Joe Young looked extremely settled at centre back and banged over two points also. Fergal Ryan was always involved and saw off a number of the Erin's Own forwards over the hour.

The forwards were regularly picking off points with Barry Hennebry, David Cashman and Colin O'Leary and Alan Browne doing well. A few goal chances slipped away which had they been converted would have allowed Erin's Own no way back.

Half time came with the Rockies 0 - 13 to 0 - 4 ahead and deservedly so. Erin's Own started well in the second half and gradually put over a few points. A side line cut from Kieran Murphy started the sliotar rolling and with Eoghan Murphy especially active (he finished top scorer from play on the night with four points), the County champions looked like making a game of it for a while.

However a goal from Chris Murphy following a nice off load by Alan Browne, curtailed their resistance somewhat. The Rockies finished strongly with points from sub Brian Cashman and excellent frees from Adrian Coughlan.

The Rockies have now qualified for the 2006 Senior Hurling League Final v Bride Rovers on Monday 9th at 7pm in Pairc Ui Rinn.
