Chairman's Report AGM 2004 |
CHAIRMAN’S
ADDRESS Once again it is my great
pleasure to extend a welcome to one and all to this Annual General Meeting. With
2004 behind us we are looking to the coming year and the years ahead with great
belief and confidence. While we may not have trophies to display today, we
certainly were in contention right up to the shake-up in most competitions in
the past year. The R na in his report carries a very comprehensive run down of
all the playing activities and the members on reading this will get a picture of
the enterprise that is the Blackrock Hurling Club. I express my appreciation
to all players, mentors, and members of various committees and the legion of
other people who carry out numerous jobs for the Club week in week out without
receiving notice, praise or plaudits. All of you are the force that makes this
Club so great. For the first time in the
Club s history, today you will be asked to elect a Chairman of the Hurling
Development Committee. The person elected will, along with the people he
chooses, direct all hurling ventures for minor under 21 and junior in the
future. We wish them well, and on behalf of the Hurling Committee, guarantee
them our total support in this very important venture. Along with St. Michael s
we have been allocated playing fields in Mahon. The necessity for this
development is obvious to any person who visits Church Road at any time during
the year. The demands on our present playing area could not be sustained. The
work on the new pitches will begin shortly and it is hoped to have the area
ready for playing in 2006. We once again thank St. Michael s for the huge amount
of energy they have put into this project and to thank the City Council staff
and the Ward Councillors for their help and advice in the negotiations around
this project. I thank you for your
attendance today and hope that all our efforts in 2005 will benefit our Club,
our area and our community. Tomas Suilleabhain
