Secretary's Report AGM 2004

TUARASCÁIL AN RÚNAÍ

A Chairde Go Leir,

Once again it is my duty and indeed my privilege to present to you our members a report on the activities of our Club for the past year.

While we cannot report that it was one of our more successful years as far as trophies are concerned, it was nevertheless a very busy and long year for all concerned.

At Senior level we played six games and reached the semi-final of the Championship, and after 14 games in the League we were defeated in the quarterfinal. Add 10 Challenge games to this list and you get a total of 30 games at Senior level plus all the training sessions each week.

That s a lot of hurling in any year and great credit is due to our panel of Players and their Mentors for all their tremendous efforts on behalf of the Club.

We also had a very busy year at Junior and Intermediate level, and reports have been submitted for these teams.

Thanks

Once again I wish to place on record my appreciation and thanks to my fellow officers for their help and co-operation, and above all their friendship and support throughout the past year.

Many thanks also to all the various committees throughout the Club who work so diligently and who give so freely of their time and talents in the interest of our Club.

Teamwork at committee level is equally as important as teamwork on the field of play, and we are very fortunate in Blackrock to have such a dedicated group of people involved in all activities of the Club.

Preparing for a Championship has now become a very time consuming job and great credit and appreciation is due to our Mentors and all our players for their dedication and all the sacrifices they make on behalf of the Club. Our thanks also to the backroom team who look after the welfare of the teams, Dr. Paddy Hayes, Physio Carol O Callaghan, First Aid John O Driscoll, Noel Flaherty, Hurleys, Jim and May O Brien, Club gear and to the ladies Maureen O Keeffe, Mary Caplis and Helen Ronan for their excellent catering during the year.

Social Committee

This year we will be 18 years running the bingo, we expect to return a figure for this year on par with last year. We would like to thank Roger Ryan, Dave Cummins, Noel Carroll, Pat Dorgan and Tom Riordan for all their help during the year.

Condolences

On behalf of the Club I wish to extend sincere condolences to all those who have suffered bereavement throughout the past year. The 10.30 a.m. Mass in St. Michael s Church today was offered for the happy repose of their souls.

Grounds Committee

The Grounds Committee had a very busy year and thanks to their efforts, both the pitches and the general surrounding area of our Club was kept in excellent condition throughout the season. Willie Coughlan joined us during the year and has proved a welcome addition to the committee. Aidan Long also came on board as caretaker this year and was a tremendous help to all concerned.
