Under 21 Report AGM 2004

UNDER 21 REPORT

Blackrock s U-21 campaign for 2004 got underway last March when the selectors and Players held a meeting in the Club. It was a very well attended meeting, and we all left with high hopes for the coming season.

Every Player had been assigned to one of the adult teams in the Club, and the selectors kept an eye on their progress as the season unfolded. We made it clear to the players that they were always welcome to train with any of the adult teams. Because of Club commitments, we only played one serious challenge game Vs Bishopstown, which we won 3 14 to 0 14.

In our first championship game we defeated the Barrs in a very tough encounter at Ballinlough, 2 14 to 1 6. If we had scored our goal 5 minutes earlier we might just have snatched the game.

The Players showed tremendous heart and maturity, and our Captain T.J. Coughlan, throughout the year showed great leadership qualities. The bulk of this team are eligible to play again next year at this grade.

My thanks to Tom Riordan, Bill Reidy, Paudie O Neill and the entire squad of Players, with whom it was a pleasure to work. There is a great nucleus of Players in this group who are proud to wear the Blackrock jersey, and I wish them every success in their sporting lives.
