Chairman's Report AGM 2005

CHAIRMAN'S ADDRESS

Baill de Chumann Na Carraige Dhuibhe,

Ba mhaith liom-sa fáiltiu róimh uilig go dtí an Crinniú Blíantiúil inniu.

On my own behalf and on behalf of the hurling Committee, I wish to welcome you to our Annual General Meeting today. I thank the members for attending and hope for a positive, progressive and beneficial get-together.

This meeting deals in the main with hurling matters and that is what the agenda sets out to achieve. We hope for participation from the membership and that decisions will be taken for the good of the Club for 2006 and into the future. To make progress we need to move forward, but we are hampered somewhat due to the reluctance of members to get involved in Club Administration. This is a National occurrence, not confined to this Club or the GAA, and it will create problems for all voluntary organisations in the very near future. It is my belief that if we could strengthen our administration numerically it would have a beneficial consequence for our endeavours on the field.

An Rúnaí in his report has Reports on all the various Team Activities for the past year. A huge effort was made by all the Players, Mentors and Backroom people during the season. Their efforts are always appreciated, although we may at times neglect to tell them.

At last years AGM we put the Development Committee in place under the Chairmanship of Liam Meaney. While the past twelve months would not be sufficient time to give a total assessment on this new structure, the interim evaluation is very positive and this group is extremely active and has been involved in big games for our Club this year. The Under-Age and Primary Sections continue to provide hurling activities for the youth of the area and their efforts are appreciated by all.

The Hurling-Hall is now being used for indoor training and the development of the Pitch in Mahon is progressing, when the weather permits. Finance has been secured for this venture and our Management Committee is due our thanks for their efforts in progressing these €2.7M jobs.

The Social and Grounds Committee members continue to work for the Club. These two groups should be an inspiration for all. Get on with the Job is their motto, and they do. The thanks of all the membership has been earned by these great Blackrock people.

Finally, I wish you all the best of Health and Good Luck for the year ahead and on my own behalf and on behalf of the Hurling Committee I wish you all and your families a Happy and Peaceful Christmas.
