Intermediate Report AGM 2005 |
INTERMEDIATE HURLING REPORT
The past year was a very difficult and disappointing year for the Intermediate Hurling team. We began the year very optimistically, hoping to build on the progress of 2004. Despite our best efforts we found it impossible to field our strongest team in any competition due to injuries, exams, work, and players tied to Senior Hurling and Football teams. As a consequence we we failed to reach the knockout stages of all competitions. It is generally agreed that the team did not perform to it's capabilities throughout the year. Our performance in the Sean Ó Murchú Cup and League highlighted our weaknesses and lack of experience, losing 5 games in added time. Our Championship defeat to Kanturk was very disappointing. The playing conditions on the day were very poor and we failed to set the pace. Our lack of discipline cost us the game. Our Championship performance against Ballymartle in the drawn game highlighted the potential of this young team. In the last 20 minutes we came back from being 9 points down to salvage a deserved draw. Unfortunately we lost 7 players for the replay and despite a determined performance Ballymartle proved too strong on the day. Thanks to the Senior Trainer, Coach, Selectors, Redmond Quirke for his help and support, and to all the players who gave full commitment throughout the past year. Ger Coughlan.
