Rockies capture Carlow Town Cup. The Blackrock under 16 hurling team won the prestigious Carlow Town Cup when they defeated Camross in the final on Saturday 2nd July. This competition which is generally recognised as the unofficial All-Ireland of juvenile hurling was again a thrilling spectacle in which 16 of the best juvenile teams in Ireland participated. Blackrock were involved in five tough games before finally annexing the blue ribbon of juvenile hurling. Results: Blackrock 2 --- 5 St. Annes (Wexford) 1 --- 3 Blackrock 2 --- 9 Portlaoise 0 ---- 3, Blackrock 2 ----8 Durlas Og 1 --- 4. Blackrock 0 --- 8 Na Piarsaigh 0 --- 1(semi-final) Blackrock 1 --- 6 Camross 1 --- 3, (final). Dan Harnedy one of the main organisers of the tournament presented the Carlow Town Cup to Blackrock captain Declan Kelleher. Declan who was an inspirational captain expressed his delight at being the first Rocky to lift the trophy and praised his team mates, most of whom have hurled together over the past decade, for their extraordinary efforts. He also praised coaches Jamie Harrington, John Long, Gerard O'Mahony and Michael Kilcoyne for all their work. Eamonn O'Donoghue Chairperson of the Blackrock Juvenile section was absolutely delighted with the success, " this is a great reward for all the dedicated work being undertaken by dozens of hurling coaches with the hundreds of young Rockies at Church Road over the past number of years, we are absolutely thrilled with this success and hopefully will build on it in the years to come" he declared.
