Chairmans Report AGM 16th December 2002

CHAIRMAN'S ADDRESS

A Chairde Uilig,

Ta fáilte roimh cách go dtí an Crinniu Bliantiul anocht. Tá súil agam go mbeidh an ocáid seo tasnú sár maith leis an Bliain 2003.

On behalf of the Hurling Executive of the Club, I welcome all our members to our Annual General Meeting. We will review a further successful year in the life of the Club and also give us an opportunity to make a start to the coming season.

The success of the Senior team in winning their second Championship in a row, thus achieving the 32nd County Senior title for Blackrock was the highlight of the year. We compliment the hurlers, the mentors and the back room team for their great efforts in reaching such a historic milestone in 2002. Our failure to defeat Sixmilebridge in the Munster Championship semi-final was a disappointment. Our performance on the day deserved a better result.

It is disappointing to once again comment on the failure of our Junior and U / 21 teams to win a trophy in the past season. The effort by the players and mentors certainly would deserve such a reward.

Our under age structure is catering for an enormous amount of talent and they have enjoyed some outstanding successes in the past year, the most notable of all being the Under 12 team's victory in the County Championship for the second year in a row.

In 2002 we have enjoyed great occasions and have also had disappointments. We are fortunate to have many loyal people in our ranks, whose inspiration and dedication help to keep us afloat.

In conclusion, I wish to place on record my appreciation and thanks to the members of the Hurling Executive for their dilegence and encouragement. In particular, I am sure they will join with me in stating my admiration and astonishment at the amount of work which our Runaí, Roger Ryan, carries out for the Club, without any complaint or question.

My wish and hope for Blackrock for 2003 would be that our future will match our past, that we will remain loyal to the Gaelic Athletic Association and that we will all gather here again next year with God's help, to review an even more successful year than 2002.
