Our Purpose as underage coaches in Blackrock:

1.Make sure the players enjoy their time with us.

2.Develop each players skill to his/her maximum level.

3.Prepare them for Bórd na -nÓg.

4.Build a sense of belonging to the club.

5.Prepare them for future roles in our club as: players, coaches, administrators or supporters.

1.We want sport to be safe we want sport to be fun and we want to ensure that no matter what sport young people are involved in that it takes place in a spirit of fair play.

2.Encourage Participants to:

HAVE A GO.

IMPROVE THEIR SKILLS

MAKE FRIENDS

PLAY BY THE RULES

APPRECIATE and ACCEPT EVERYBODY IN THE GROUP, REGARDLESS OF ABILITY, RACE, RELIGION, GENDER.

 

3.COACHES SHOULD:

ACT AS GOOD ROLE MODELS (general behaviour language, timekeeping, organisation etc)

BE ENCOURAGING AND POSITIVE

PLAN AND PREPARE EACH SESSION( PLAN FOR DIFFERENCES)

ENJOYMENT FIRST

 

GOOD PRACTICE

COACHES SHOULD NEVER

Exert undue influence over an individual.

Share a room with a young person alone on away trips.

Engage in rough physical games, sexually provocative games or allow or engage in inappropriate touching of any kind, and/or make sexually suggestive comments about or to a child.

Use any form of corporal punishment or physical force on a young person

Take measurements or engage in certain types of fitness testing without the presence of another adult.

Undertake any form of therapy (hypnosis etc) in the training of young people.

 

Note .There are times when it will be necessary when coaching to have physical contact with a participant to demonstrate a particular skill, this is allowable when it occurs in an open situation and in an appropriate way.

 

Coaches should avoid:

Spending excessive amounts of time with a participant away from others.

Taking sessions alone.

Taking young people to the coaches home

Taking young people on journeys alone in their car.
