Coaching the Coaches

The Minor and Primary School section of Blackrock National Hurling Club recently held an official G.A.A. Foundation Coaching Course for Rocky coaches in the club.   The club believes that our coaches should always be in position to avail of the benefits of the most modern practices, techniques and approaches to modern day hurling coaching for young hurlers

The course commenced on Wednesday 10th April and continued on 17th April and Wednesday 24th April.  It was held under the experienced eyes of Tom Nott, Cork County Board coach who conducted the course, which involved a combination of practical sessions and useful theoretical knowledge calculated to improve the confidence and coaching techniques of all the participants.

Approx 30 Rocky hurling and camogie coaches have participated in the course for which official GAA Foundation Course coaching certificates will be presented.  This certificate represents the first step in the coach’s progression through the new GAA Coaching Programme.  The club hopes to follow up with a Level One Coaching course later.

The key to the effective coaching programme for boys and girls from 4 to 18 years is very dependent on the calibre, commitment and experience of our voluntary coaches.  The men and women, who appear week after week to coach young children in the arts and skills of hurling, perform an invaluable service to the community.  We in Blackrock club are extremely fortunate to have a tremendously committed group of coaches who look after over 500 boys and girls throughout the year

If you feel that you can help to coach young rockies and have the energy and commitment , then we would like to hear from you. Why not phone Eamon O Donoghue at telephone no 4893465. or talk to coaches on Saturday mornings.

We can guarantee you an interesting and enjoyable time.
