Coaches Seminar 2007 |
Coaches seminar. The annual Blackrock coaches seminar took place at Church Road on Thursday 29th March. John Kennedy the Blackrock Child Welfare officer gave a presentation on the latest developments in this area and urged the utmost vigilance in relation to child protection in all areas of the club. He outlined the various changes which will occur in relation to the vetting of coaches during 2007 and it was agreed that these be fully implemented in the Blackrock youth sections. Referee Ger Harrington outlined the role of a referee in Gaelic games and the wide extent of the attributes required to oversee the games. His contribution will ensure an increased understanding and awareness from those present of the difficult and exacting nature of refereeing. In his talk, he challenged those present to adjudicate on individual incidents arising in games, which led to a rather lively discussion. Declan O'Sullivan in his role as Chartered Physiotherapist outlined the positive and negative features of existing training methods especially for young hurlers. In a fascinating contribution to the seminar he also challenged the accepted beliefs of many coaches and their training methods.
