2003 County Final Preview

Blackrock's date with destiny.

Cork County Final Sunday 12th October 2003. At Pairc Ui Chaoimh 3.15.

Blackrock V Newtownshandrum.

Thousands of Rockies, young and old are expected at Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Sunday12th October for the County Final, which promises to be a very exciting game.

All young Rockies should wear their Rocky jerseys, bring their flags and cheer on the Senior team captained by Wayne Sherlock as they seek to hold on to the Sean Og Murphy Cup.

This could be Alan Cummins last match for the Rockies as he heads for Australia directly after the game to get married. What a catch he made last Sunday against Cloyne in the first half! May we wish Alan and his bride Michelle long life and happiness in Australia and perhaps he will get bored with Aussie Rules and hurl in Church Road again.

Now that the heart monitors have been put away for another week, County Final excitement is reaching fever pitch at Church Road with large crowds attending the training sessions and the outcome of the game being discussed around the clock.

Following Newtownshandrum's win over Sarsfields, only a massive performance by the Blackrock team will be good enough on the day. Coach Timmy Murphy is rightly taking it one match at a time and he and his mentors and panel will not underestimate the North Cork side, which will be attempting to seek revenge for last year's final defeat.

The very best of luck to the Rockies on Sunday, hopefully we can leave the heart monitors at home this time.
