Ger Dineen Tournament 2006 |
Ger Dineen Tournament. This prestigious competition in memory of the late Gerard Dineen for the under 13 hurlers was held in glorious sunshine at Church Road on Saturday 9th September. Sixmilebridge just edged out the Rockies in a thrilling final on the scoreline of 3 - 3 to 1 - 8. For the Rockies Dylan Stokes, Kevin O'Keeffe, Andy O'Connell and Darragh O'Keeffe were excellent all afternoon. Blackrock had earlier overcome Carrigaline in the semi-final while the Clare champions had beaten Douglas. Douglas won the Plate final with a victory over Carrigaline. The quality of the hurling was outstanding during the day and was a fitting tribute to Gerard Dineen who had done such sterling work at Church Road for many decades. Among the guests of honour was Gerard's mother Maureen. The trophy was presented by Liam Dineen on behalf of the Dineen family, while Cork star Wayne Sherlock presented medals to the teams. The competition was organised by a committee headed by J.P.Devine.
