Blackrock Indoor Hurling Hall

PRESS RELEASE

Blackrock National Hurling Club wishes to announce the official opening of our new Club Complex (incorporating Hurling Hall) on Sunday, March 5th, 2006 at 2 p.m., followed by Invitational Senior Hurling Challenge Match Cork V Kilkenny at 3 p.m.

The opening will be performed by the President of C.L.G. Mr. Sean Kelly. We will be honoured by the presence of the Lord Mayor of Cork, Ms. Deirdre Clune, and the Minister for Enterprise Mr. Micheál Martin.

The building will be blessed by the Bishop of Cork and Ross Rev. John Buckley, who will be assisted by local clergy.

The complex was developed at a cost of 2.1 million Euro. This was very generously supported by the National Lottery, for which we are very grateful, in addition to our own huge fundraising effort.

It is a magnificent addition to our Club and includes meeting rooms, pitch viewing area, kitchen, dressing rooms and a very impressive indoor Hurling Hall. This hall will be of immense benefit to the Club, and in particular to the hundreds of young hurlers and camogie players who are now involved in the underage section of our Clubs.

We are privileged to welcome the current All Ireland Champions, Cork, and the National Hurling League Titleholders, Kilkenny, who will take part in a highly attractive Challenge Match to mark the occasion.

In addition to this there will be various underage Hurling and Camogie matches taking place during the day in the Hurling Hall. There will also be an Under 14 Hurling match between Blackrock and Kilkenny prior to the Senior match.

The day promises to be a fitting celebration of this major new development in the long history of Blackrock National Hurling Club, Cork.
