Finals at Middle Earth. Saturday 3rd July Great drama last Saturday as the final battles in the Lord of the Caman
and Fellowship of the Sliotar were held in glorious sunshine. The
Hobbits maintained their unbeaten run and captured the title from an
unlucky Orcs selection. Cathal Cormack captained the Hobbits to a great
victory, while Gavin Connolly led the Orcs. Also outstanding were Brian
O’Leary, David King, Joe Logue and Troy Kinnane. The Elves captained by PJ Green defeated the Wizards led by Andy
Harrington to land the Fellowship of the Sliotar title for 2004. Eric
Grimes, Niall Cashman, Dean Torpey and Niall Fitzgerald were brilliant. The under 2004, 8/9 Blackrock super leagues were a wonderful success with over 80 boys
contributing to 4 weeks of great hurling. Everyone received a lovely
medal from Blackrock Senior mentors and players, Timmy Murphy, Fergal
Ryan, Tom Cashman and Liam Meaney.
Round 3 Saturday 26th June There was huge excitement last Saturday as the Wizards achieved their first success, defeating the Elves by one point. Young Kevin Foley gave a performance of a lifetime in goal for the Wizards, assisted by Alan O'Callaghan. PJ Green and Naoise Crowley were brilliant for the Elves. The Hobbits continued their dominance with a hard fought victory over the Orcs. Robert Galvin and Eoin Burke had great games for the Hobbits while Darragh Behan and Glen Stokes were outstanding for the Orcs. Next Saturday at Middle Earth at 10 am; The Great Battle Of Gondor. "The Lord of the Caman" final; Orcs V Hobbits. "The Fellowship of the Sliotar" final; Elves V Wizards. The presentation of trophies and medals will take place immediately afterwards at the Pavilion.
The
Battle of Rohan. Saturday 19th June This took place again at Middle Earth, Church Road last Saturday morning
and featured two outstanding games. Played before a large and
appreciative audience, the standard of hurling was very high. The Orcs
came out on top against the Wizards by a couple of goals, while the
Hobbits defeated the Elves by just three points. Paul Tobin, Mark
McGuinness, Luke McGee and Philip O’Callaghan were stars on the day. Next week; The Battle of
Mordor. The Elves V The Wizards The Hobbits V The Orcs
The battle of Helms Deep Saturday 12th June The battle of Helms Deep took place last Saturday with the Hobbits
coming out on top over the Wizards, while the Elves and the Orcs played
a thrilling draw after some terrific hurling. There was great excitement
on the back field, renamed Middle Earth for the occasion. This section
of the superleagues will eventually conclude on Saturday 3rd
July when the eventual destination of the Lord of the Caman and the
Fellowship of the Sliotar titles will be decided. Elves 3 --- 1 Orcs 3 --- 1 Hobbits 3 --- 5 Wizards 2 --- 0 Two very good matches. The Hobbits sent out an early warning that they will take some beating as Sion Irwin, Cathal cormack and David King played some great hurling. Niall Cashman Eoin Mc carthy and Dean Torpey displayed some great touches but were unable to contain the rampant Hobbits. T here was nail-biting excitement in the second encounter as it eventually finished in a draw after a great battle. Joe Logue, Alan Norberg and David Parfrey were excellent all through for the Orcs, however they were matched by an outstanding Eric Grimes, Dan Linehan and Fiacre Kelleher for the Elves. The matches were played in glorious sunshine, and watched by huge crowds. Our thanks to all the boys who played in the games.
