The match of the day took place in the Competitors Cup Final when the Killer Whales defeated the Black Widows by a point 8 - 1 to 8 - 0, after a tremendous Limerick style fight back. Captains David Dalton and Sean O' Callaghan played their part in a cracking game.

Fergal Ryan presented the trophies and medals to all the youngsters, while Primary Chairperson, Seamus Hartnett praised all associated with the Blackrock Super Leagues.

Mr Hartnett stated,

"These games are all about the promotion of hurling and every Rocky is given a chance to play full games. These games require the cooperation of hundreds of youngsters, hundreds of parents and dozens of coaches to create a positive and encouraging atmosphere so that boys can play hurling."

"Special mention again has to be given to the Carey family for their ongoing sponsorship of this wonderful league" he concluded.

Under 8 and 9 Super leagues. Round 1

There was great excitement on Saturday 26th May as the under 8 and 9 super leagues commenced. A very large crowd watched the four games and the standard of hurling was quite high.

Results: Sting Rays 3 - 0 Killer Whales 2 - 0

This was a very exciting game with the result in doubt right to the end. Both sides were very evenly matched. Ciaran Kearney, Liam Grainger and Jack Sweeney were outstanding for the Rays while Harry Scannell, David McSweeney and David Dalton showed some lovely touches for the Whales.

Tarantulas 8 - 0 Scorpions 4 - 3

The Tarantulas possessed too much fire power for the Scorpions in this game and while the latter tried very hard they could not match the Tars ability to convert goals. David Hurley, full back Daniel Dunphy and Mark Cunningham led the way for the Tars while Cathal Browne, Mark O'Leary and Sean O'Regan shone for the Scorpions.

Sharks 1 - 3 Dolphins 1 - 1

The Sharks just got the better of the luckless Dolphins and emerged by two points at the end. Jacob Buckley, Owen Sheridan and Eoghan O'Leary were the Sharks heroes. Luke Maher, Eoghan O'Shea and Ronan Buckley made their mark for the Dolphins.

Iguanas 6 - 2 Black Widows 1 - 2

This was a one sided encounter as some of the Black Widows stars were unavoidably absent. However Cian Cashman, Rodhrai Crowley and Mark O'Keeffe performed very well for the Widows while Tadhg Deasy, Conor Twomey and Tadhg Adams were unbeatable for the Iguanas.

The super league games continue on Saturday June 9th.

Sharks V Killer

Whales Dolphins V Sting Rays

Scorpions V Iguanas

Tarantulas V Black Widows.
