Super-Leagues 1999/2000 Group  Results 2009

Report of super league finals.

After a very competitive league series the Tigers and the Lions emerged on top to contest the Premier Final. Both teams were managed by All Ireland Winners with Tom Cashman (Cork) managing the Lions and the legendary John Cormack (Tipp) in the opposite corner. This set the tone of the match, with an ultra competitive fixture being won in the end by the narrowest of margins.

The Tigers defended well in the first half with Killian Buckley and Aaron Ahern dealing with all that came their way, while Eoghan O Leary and Nathan Montgomery were getting to grips in the midfield. However they were running into tough defence from Emmet Sheehan and Donagh Gribbon. Scoring was at a premium with only one score recorded in the first half.

Rousing half time team talks by the legend Managers, drawing on past and future Cork / Tipp encounters served only to up the tempo for the second half with Eoin O Donovan and Mark Butler coming to the fore for the Tigers and Carl Brazier and Liam Grainger beginning to show for the Lions. In the end both teams traded scores and a missed free for the Lions in the dying moments left the Tigers victorious by the smallest of margins.

The Champions Final was contested between the Panther’s and Puma’s. The Panthers dominated from the half back line with very little ball getting past Harry Scannell and Diarmuid Cormack and what did was swept up by Sean O Leary. Joe Golden and Conor Twomey worked hard to hold the score to 2 – 2 to 0 – 2 at half time.

The second half was a different affair with Eoin O Shea and Brian Holland getting more room and running in a another four goals by the end of half. Ben O Connor and Robert Cregan tried hard but the power of the Panthers told in the end.

The medals were presented by the PJ Green the Captain of the successful Blackrock Feile Team, who won the County Feile final the previous night. PJ in his speech remarked on the fact that “the standard of hurling on display by the seventy plus kids was superb, and hoped that they would in a few years bring back the Feile Trophy.”

The Super leagues are sponsored by Carey Tool Hire.
