October 11th Finals A tumultuous round of applause greeted the end of the 2002 panel Super leagues Champions finals on Saturday 11th October last. In spite of at least 10 minutes extra time the Firbolgs and Warriors could not be separated and the match was declared a 2 all draw. The Challengers final resulted in a victory for the Red Hand Knights over the Fianna on a score line of 4 goals to 3. Held in brilliant sunshine at Church Road, these finals proved a worthy finale to the league games of the past four weeks when these teams battled for supremacy under the watchful eyes of their coaches. The improving standard of hurling bore testament to the old adage that practice makes perfect and there was no doubting that many of these newcomers to the game of hurling were certainly practicing the game. Over 50 special medals were presented by Blackrock stalwarts Fergal Ryan and Jim Brohan to the youngsters. The great efforts of the boys and their parents especially in the poor weather of recent weeks were praised by Blackrock Primary Chairperson, Seamus Hartnett. The coaches led by Allan Russell, Donal O’Mahony, Ian White, Donal Buckley, Martyn Griffin, David Vaughan, Martin Hurley and Steven O’Brien were especially pleased with the progress of their young charges. The Blackrock Super leagues were once again sponsored by Carey Tool Hire.
