Super-Leagues U10 and 11 Reports 2006

Under 10's and Under 11's reports

Finals May 27th

Super League Cup Final.

Blackrock Rebels 6 - 1 Blackrock Heroes 2 - 7

Amidst tremendous excitement and late scores the Rebels upset the favourites in this thriller which had the very large crowd chewing fingernails until the final ball was pucked.

The Rebels led by Niall Cashman emerged the winners over Heroes led by David McElroy.

Credit is due to the youngsters and their coaches who made little of the terrible conditions to produce a classic final.

Heroes such as Simon Irwin, Brian O'Leary and Andy Harrington were outstanding but were matched in commitment by Rebels such as Glen Stokes, Alex McSweeney and Daniel Meaney.

Super League Plate Final.

Blackrock Champions 4 - 3 Blackrock Legends 2 - 2

This was a tough no nonsence encounter with both sides giving everything to capture the bragging rights for 2006.

One highlight was an excellent goal from a sideline cut by Champions captain Eoin McCarthy.

The Champions just shaded it in the run-in. Niall Woods, Philip O'Callaghan and Jack Lenihan were brilliant for the Champions, while David Parfrey, Ian O'Keeffe and Ben McCarthy displayed great hurling skills for the Legends who were captained by Eamon Kelly.

Seamus Hartnett Blackrock Primary Section Chairperson was loud in his praise for the young Rockies who defied the weather to make this tournament an outstanding success. The trophies and medals were presented to the teams by Jimmy Brohan who also complemented all the teams.

Round 2 May 13th

Two very interesting games were played on Saturday 13th May.

Heroes 5-4 Champions 3-0.

There was some fine hurling in this game with the ball constantly on the move The Heroes ran up a good early lead and could not be reined in the second half despite the best efforts of the Blackrock Champions Paul Tobin, Eoin McCarthy and Philip O'Callaghan. Paul Redmond had an absolute blinder in goal for the Champions, while Craig O'Donovan, Jim Murphy Brian O'Leary and David Redmond were stars for the Heroes.

Legends 5-1 Rebels 4-1

The Rebels started brilliantly and exerting midfield control ran up a commanding lead by half time. Niall Fitzgerald, Brian Walsh were dominant in this period. The second half brought the Legends back into the game and with David Parfrey and Paddy Lynch in great form they eventually went ahead coming on the final whistle to snatch an unlikely win.

Games for Saturday 20th May at 9am.

Heroes V Rebels

Champions V Legends.

Round 1 May 6th

In spite of the leaden skies the opening round of the Blackrock Super leagues for 10 and 11 year old boys were held at Church Road on Saturday 6th May.

The Heroes were pitted against the Legends in the opening contest which resulted in a very close match. Simon Irwin and David King were rampant early on for the Heroes; however they were well matched with powerful displays from Paddy Lynch and P J Green.

In the second match a somewhat subdued Champions outfit were outclassed by the rampant rebels for whom Joe Logue and Niall Cashman were outstanding. Eric Grimes and Fiacre Kelleher tried hard to stem the tide for the Champions and should rebound next week when they take on the Heroes.

Matches Saturday 13th May at 9 am.

Blackrock Heroes V Blackrock Champions.

Blackrock Legends V Blackrock Rebels.
