Super-Leagues U10 and 11 Reports 2007

Under 10's and Under 11's reports

Finals

These games were very exciting and attracted huge crowds. Sponsored by Carey Tool Hire they once again lived up to expectations. Wayne Sherlock who presented the trophies and medals expressed himself well satisfied with the standard of hurling in all the games.

Cup Final. Greens 1 - 8 Blues 0 - 9.

When Alan O'Callaghan broke through in the final minute to send a screamer of a shot, it looked like certain victory for the Blues. However an acrobatic save from Daniel O'Mahony denied him and the Greens emerged victorious. It was a fitting end to a titanic struggle to claim the Blackrock Super League bragging rights for 2007. The Greens had fine performers in Fiacre Kelleher, Stephen Logan Lane and Paddy Lynch. The brave Blues had excellent hurlers in Liam O'Sullivan, Joshua O'Shea and Alex Kelly. The most positive player awards went to Jim Keating for the Greens and Luke McGee for the Blues.

Greens joint manager Jodi Crowley celebrated his very first Super league win in six attempts, while Mark "lucky" Dalton emerged with a double having also won in 2006 and must be eyeing up the Dublin hurling managers job at this stage. To Jodi and Mark go the Church Road coaches bragging rights for 2007.

League Final. Rockies 3 - 5 Yellows 3 - 6

This was an incredible game of hurling with referee Alan Russell actually forgetting to blow the final whistle in the growing excitement. Young Ryan O'Mahony, Dean Torpey and Jim Murphy can look back with pride at their efforts for the Yellows. The Rockies had Kevin Foley, Jack Linehan and John Boylan in great form. Michael O'Halloran was deemed the "most positive player" for the Yellows while Jack Lenihan captured that coveted award on behalf of the Rockies.

Shield Final. Reds 6 - 3 Golds 5 - 3.

This one had the large crowd give both sides an appreciative round of applause at the end. The Reds put on a brilliant fight back and rightly deserved their victory. Paul Tobin, Fionnan Casey and young Patrick McDonagh would not countenance defeat and took the game to their opponents in the second half. The Golds with Darragh Jones, Ryan Cantwell and Kevin Green working hard were unlucky in the end. Daniel Linehan was considered the "most positive player" for the Reds while Seamus Hogan was chosen for the Golds.

Round 3

Results:

Reds 2 - 3, Blues 3 - 2

Rockies 1 - 1, Golds 2 - 3

Greens 2 - 3, Yellows 3 - 3

The Reds /Blues game was a tremendous contest, not one for the faint hearted with a late goal giving victory to the Blues managed by former Tipperary stalwart John Cormack. Oliver Meade, Joshua O'Shea and full-back John Cashman were the Blues stars in this game while Daniel Lenihan, Adrian Daly and Fionnan Casey fought to the very end for the unlucky Reds.

The Golds picked up their first win with a five point margin over the favourite Rockies. Simon Lougheed, Ryan Cantwell and Brian O'Mahony were unbeatable for the Golds on the day. Jack Lenihan with three incredible saves along with Naoise Crowley and John Boylan worked hard all through for the Rockies.

The Yellows also sprung a surprise over table topping Greens. Powered by the O'Brien twins Conor and Dara and Oisin Wedel they overcame the Greens for which Fiacre Kelleher, Darragh O'Callaghan and Ciaran O'Connell hurled well.

The Reds and Rockies had a great battle with the outcome in doubt until the final shot. The Rockies had terrific performances from David Redmond, Ciaran Cormack and Cathal Walsh, while the Reds were well served by Paul Tobin, Barry Grainger and Patrick McDonagh.

Again just one point separated the Greens and the Golds, with the Greens winning out on the day. Paddy Lynch, Jack O'Donovan and Daniel O'Mahony were outstanding while Daniel Meaney, Philip O'Callaghan and Brian O'Mahony displayed some lovely hurling skills for the unlucky Golds.

The Blues have three points from their two encounters, with Luke Mc Gee, Alan O'Callaghan and Liam O'Sullivan in great form. The Yellows wound up with two exciting draws and Michael O'Halloran, Conor Mc Curtain (in goal) and Michael Morris caught the eye with their displays.
