Blackrock U-14 Against St. Finbarrs on April 2nd 2005 at Togher.

This our first match in the Bord na n-Óg, City League proved a successful
outing for the Rockies. Played in good weather our boys set to the task
early. A few points were scored quickly followed by three goals, with a
tally of three goals and five points before half time. There were many
good performances before the break. Paul Bennett and Eoin O’ Farrell were
excellent at mid-field. Pat Deasy was starring at centre-back and was
unlucky not to score a few long range points from frees. Eventually, he
succeeded once he allowed for a very tricky breeze. It is so nice to see a
fourteen year old pointed a 65 metre free.

Up front David Healy(Capt.) proved a handful for the Barrs defence. He
fired in a goal or two and his level of skill has to be seen to be
appreciated. David O’ Mahony was a revelation at wing forward and slotted
over some lovely points. Graham Dineen fired in a goal and Cian Linehan
and Colmán played excellenty in supporting the others. Seán Daly was a
match for the Barrs Centre Back, so much so that their best player was
brought from mid-field to deal with him, but he continued to play well.

The backs played very well and succeeded in limiting the Barrs forwards to
a few scores. Mark Ryan was his usual best at full back while his corner
backs covered very well. Chris Murphy played very well and Bernard Long
was so cool in the other corner. James Heylin and Richard Laide cleared
their lines well.

All the substitutes played well when introduced. Oisín O’ Mahony wasn
’t long on the field when he sent the ball into the net. Ciarán Fleming and
Brian Healy played well when they were brought in. Cormac Murphy did well
also when he stood in goal for the last twenty minutes. Rockies scored
4-10.

There is a busy week ahead. Training on Wednesday evening and a match on
Saturday. We will also have a challenge match on Sunday against Dicksboro
and this will be a worthwhile game as it will be a preparation match for
the Féile.
