U15 City Final 2009 |
City Championship Final. Played at Ballincollig , Saturday 17th October 2009. Blackrock 2 – 16 Na Piarsaigh 1-11 The U 15 City Hurling Championship final was played in Ballincollig at 5 pm on Saturday 17th October 2009 between old rivals Blackrock and Na Piarsaigh. These same two teams had already met this year in the final of the Lord Mayors Cup when Na Piarsaigh won a thrilling and hard fought encounter. However on this occasion Blackrock, captained by Peter O'Brien who led by example, got off to a flying start with the first point scored by Matt Bond and they never lost the lead from that point on. Olan Hanley and Alan Nolan continued the scoring with some well taken points and goals from play and frees. Na Piarsaigh fought back through Danny Morrissey and Ryan Lynch but the Blackrock defence, anchored by Ritchie McSweeney in goal and a full back line of Kevin Ring, Andrew Murphy and Stephen Murphy restricted Na Piarsaigh to 6 points in the first half. Blackrock went in at half time leading 2-10 to 0-6. Na Piarsaigh came out fighting in the 2nd half but the some excellent hooking , blocking and tackling by Ryan Dineen, Jimmy Bourke, Harry McCarthy and Jamie Ryan restricted the scoring opportunities for Shane Curtain, Cian Boyle and Eoin Hannifin. Blackrock continued to pressurize the Piarsaigh goal through Mark Quirke, Fiachra de Faoite and Callum Crowe and in the fading light Blackrock ran out worthy winners 2-16 to 1 -11.
