U-16 League

Under 16 league played at Sarsfields

Monday 10th April. 2006

Blackrock 4 --- 5 Sarsfields 3 --- 10.

It looked curtains for the Rockies when Sars led by 2 --- 8 to 0 --- 2 at half time however in an amazing second half it took an extraordinary save by the Sars keeper in the final minute to ensure their eventual victory. The Sarsfields lads started at a blistering pace and except for some wayward shooting would have been much further ahead than they were at the interval. The heroics of Richard Dineen, Ray Norberg. Ciaran O'Shaughnessy and Brian Parsons in the Blackrock back line also helped to stem the tide somewhat.

A more committed Blackrock team appeared after half time and powered by Eoin O'Farrell and Paul Bennett from centre field began to dominate proceedings. A beautifully taken goal from O'Farrell midway through the half and goals from Simon Zebo ensured a nail biting finish. Eventually it came down to the Sars goalkeeper and the crossbar in the final minute, as the Rockies went all out for victory. In fairness, despite the great Rocky fight back, it would have been an injustice if Sars had lost this one. It was a fine game with some excellent hurling controlled in a professional manner by referee Eddie Murphy.
