Blackrock Juvenile Hurling A.G.M.

The Blackrock National Hurling Club Minor and Under-age sections Annual General Meeting was held at the Club Hall on Church Road last Tuesday evening, before a very large attendance. Eamonn O'Donoghue, Chairperson in the course of a wide-ranging speech emphasised the need to ensure regular hurling matches for all youngsters who wish to play hurling and the absolute necessity for a regular advance programme of fixtures for all panels. He congratulated all the coaches, mentors and officials within the Blackrock club for their commitment and dedication to turning out hurling teams at all age groups. He reserved special praise for the young players themselves and their parents and wished everyone well for the coming year.

Outgoing Hon Secretary Richard Murphy gave a comprehensive written report on all aspects of the clubs activities during the past year. While the highlights may have been the under 14 County championship success and the under 13 City Championship success, he argued that it was more important for the club to keep all members of the panels active in hurling during the year to ensure that these youngsters progressed to the adult sections. Mentors from all the panels then gave reports.

Gerard O'Mahony from the Primary section gave a detailed account of the Saturday morning coaching sessions, both indoor and outdoor. The Blackrock Super leagues had again been a major success in 2003, with over 250 boys playing regular games. While complimenting the wonderful voluntary work of all the coaches who are promoting the game of hurling, he was especially pleased with the large numbers of youngsters who are attending the very young sections, where the emphasis has always been on fun and enjoyment for the young Rockies. Joe Phipps and his team of coaches look after these young hurlers.
