The winter hurling programme commenced on November 1st 2003 for 6 weeks and was followed by the Spring 2004 schedule, which has continued for the past 7 weeks. Upwards of 250 young Rockies between the ages of 5 and 10 have taken part in supervised coaching, fun and games during this period. The hurling sessions continued for 4 hours each Saturday and all were well attended. A total of nearly 40 new Rockies registered during the period; virtually all were newcomers to the game of hurling. We wish to thank also Mr Flor O' Sullivan Principal of St Anthony's for his assistance and cooperation in providing the excellent hall facilities. Older Rocky groups have been hurling during the winters under lights for the past three years at the all-weather pitch in Ashton. Many other clubs are now hurling under lights all across the city. This is part of the quite revolution in hurling, which has seen the game develop into an all year round sport for young hurlers. |
