The Minor and Underage Annual Report
In the past year the young hurlers of Blackrock have given us great moments of joy, marvelous hours of success and entertainment, days of wine and roses. Of course they also brought some moments of heartbreaking defeat. however the year was never boring or predictable.
Last year I wrote about the air of confidence which permeated throughout the club and that the hard work of the Saturday morning coaching would soon reap rewards. The splendid victory of our under 12 hurlers winning the County Championship justified my optimism. Heartiest congratulations to this team and its mentors for this brilliant achievement.
While we may not have won other trophies, all our teams competed in the A grade and completed their full programme of matches, in a disciplined competitive, enjoyable way. Our underage players played in a manner befitting a club of our proud tradition.
The future looks bright because these players have a definite allegiance to Blackrock Hurling Club and I have no doubt that many of these players will go on to represent our club at the highest level. The success of our senior team in winning the County Championship ensures that the excitement and enthusiasm for hurling was never more alive. The young people of the Parish can readily identify with Champions - heroes in green and gold who act like a beacon for our underage teams. Well done to all concerned - we are very proud of your achievement.

Code of Good Behaviour The underage section recognise the fact that for coaching to be effective, players must be self-motivated. Our aim is to ensure the right of each player to a relatively disruption free environment. The need for order and good behaviour is emphasised and players are encouraged to accept the rules in a spirit of goodwill and cooperation. A sub committee was set up with a view of drawing up a Code of Good behaviour. Code of Good behaviour - click on this to see the Code of Good Behaviour.

Feile Feile na nGael was held in Cork this year. Blackrock Hurling Club hosted St. Rynaghs of Offaly. Our boys played heroically and were most unluckly not to come out of their group.
Many thanks to all who helped us to stage this wonderful event, particularly the families who hosted the children and the ladies who spent the day feeding the masses.
Schools Many thanks to the schools of the parish for their efforts in promoting Gaelic Games. The Club owes the teachers a dept of gratitude.
St. Michael's Heartiest congratulations to the underage to the Underage section of St. Michaels Gaelic Football Club, on winning four trophies this year. It was a fantastic achievement and well done to all concerned.
The Millennium Project Our beautiful new pavilion is now open and phase 2 of our Millennium Project is at an advanced stage. This includes an Indoor Hurling Hall, Meeting Rooms, Changing facilities and Entertainment Complex. Tremendous credit is now due to all involved in this project. As Blackrock National Hurling Club now has a Pavilion befitting its status as the Premier Hurling Club in the County.
Also congratulations to those involved in organizing the Corporate Function. It was as always an outstanding success.
Church Gate Collection Our annual Church Gate Collection was held in March, and realised over £1,500. This was our biggest collection yet and illustrates clearly the goodwill there is towards Underage Hurling in the Blackrock area. Many thanks to all who volunteered to collect at the various Masses in the Parish.
Insurance All players in the underage Section of the Club were encouraged to participate in the New GAA Insurance Scheme. There was a moderate take up on the scheme. Hopefully this will be pursued more rigorously in the future and all payers will avail of the insurance cover. Many thanks to Billy Reidy for overseeing the introduction of the scheme.
Tournaments The Club successfully organised both the William Ahern and the Tim Dennehy Memorial Tournaments.
Ger Dineen R.I.P. When the bad news first broke that our esteemed colleague Ger Dineen had passed to his eternal reward a great feeling of deep sadness swept through the entire Club. By any standard Ger was a remarkable man. His death has left a huge void in the Club in general and in the Underage section in particular. It deserves to be said that the like of Ger Dineen are so rare. During his short life he made a huge contribution to Blackrock where his name and memory will long be remembered. Leaba i measc na Naomh go raibh aige.
Thanks A special word of thanks to the Ladies Committee for their work and to Mary O'Brien for the fantastic job she did in looking after the jerseys for us.
Finally I would like to take this opportunity to thank the mentors of all teams who worked so hard throughout the year and to my fellow officers for their assistance. A special word of thanks to our Chairman Eamon O'Donoghue who worked tirelessly to promote hurling among the youth of Blackrock.
