Saturday 27th Warriors V Firbolgs Fianna V Red Hand Knights

Saturday 4th Warriors V Red Hand Knights Fianna V Firbolgs

Saturday 11th Grand Finals.

Only ground hurling is permitted in the games, which will last (30 minutes), 15minutes a half. The aim is to give every boy who turns up full games of hurling and encouraging participation, fun and excitement. We have kept the numbers low to ensure every Rocky gets as many strikes of the sliotar as possible during the matches. If any Rocky does not intend to participate for any reason please phone or text the name to Ger at 086 3196063, (as we can revise the teams to ensure balance, if you let us know in time)

Super Leagues for those born in 2000 and 2001

The Blackrock Super leagues for the 2000 and 2001 hurling panels commenced on June 7th  at 10.30 at Church Road.

Upwards of 90 boys took part

Eight teams took part, the Bandits, Desperados, Amigos, Cafflers, Comrades, Rascals, Pirates and Vagabonds.

The Super leagues are sponsored by Carey Tool Hire, in honour of Joe Carey who was a great supporter of the Blackrock Street leagues for many decades.

The matches were spread over four weeks and every boy got a full game each morning. The finals were held at Church Road on Saturday 28th June .

Ray Cummins, who has played such a magnificent part in the story of Blackrock and Cork hurling, visited Church Road to view the finals of the Blackrock Super Leagues on Saturday 28th June and to present the medals to the young Rockies who took part.

Long recognised as one of the finest hurlers of all time and a man who has won every award in both hurling and football during the 1970s, Ray admitted that he was very impressed with the levels of skill demonstrated by the youngsters.

"The extraordinary skill levels of the youngsters is very impressive and it is a great credit to their coaches and mentors that have worked with them to develop their skill work and hurling talents", declared Ray.

"They are not afraid to go and win the ball and get their shot in" stated Ray, "its amazing they are so committed at such as a young age", he continued.

These Leagues have been played at Blackrock for many years having continued to carry on the wonderful traditions of the Blackrock Street Leagues of the 50s, 60s and 70s in the area, through which most of the Blackrock hurlers developed their hurling talents.

These Leagues are sponsored by Carey Tool Hire and director Ken Carey officiated at the presentation of medals following in the footsteps of Joe Carey who supported the underage sections of the Blackrock hurling club for many years and always attended the finals of the Leagues.

The primary section wish to thank the coaches, led by Jimmy Brohan, they include Conor Butler, David Madden, Tom Kilcommons, Martin O'Sullivan, Maurice Griffin, Oisin O'Mahony, Paul O'Callaghan, Eugene Heaney, Fergus O'Brien, Donal Murray, Sean Logue and Orla O'Shea. They did a great job is organising the whole event over the past month.
