Saturday Mornings will conclude Sat. Oct 8th and resume Sat. Nov 5th

The Saturday morning hurling coaching season concludes next Saturday 8th October.

The season began early last April and has featured huge numbers of young boys wishing to play hurling. While the All-Ireland success has certainly helped to attract youngsters to the game, the emphasis on participating, having fun and enjoying hurling without worrying too much about the results is also attracting many new recruits to the wonderful skills of hurling.

Following a break of a few weeks, all the young Blackrock hurlers will come indoors on Saturday 5th November next at two locations. The younger boys will start indoor hurling at St. Anthony's School hall while the older boys will begin in the Blackrock Hurling Hall.

After Christmas, the younger boys will transfer to Church Road and a series of Indoor Super Leagues will be held at St Anthony's School.

All registered Rockies will receive full details in the post over the next few weeks.

Fifty-eight intrepid 8-year-old Rockies headed for Douglas early on Saturday morning and had a series of hurling games with the boys from Douglas. Our grateful thanks to the Douglas Hurling Club and in particular John Barry for setting up the games.

On Sunday morning almost fifty 9 year olds descended on Ballincollig and also received a great reception from the Ballincollig Hurling club. Our thanks to the Ballincollig club and Don O'Callaghan for making the arrangements.

Last Saturday 17th September was probably the busiest weekend of the year at Church Road with over 500 hurlers from 5 to 16 displaying all that's best in hurling and giving the lucky spectators some first class entertainment. The Autumnal sunshine brought out huge crowds and ensured a perfect backdrop over the two days for the youngsters to show off their hurling skills.

Sept 2005

The Mick Cashman Cup.

The Mick Cashman Cup Final took place at Church Road on Sunday afternoon 18th September. The competition for 10 year olds has been an outstanding success and the future of Cork hurling is quite safe should these youngsters develop as hurlers in the fullness of time.

Blackrock overcame Douglas while Na Piarsaigh won through against Sarsfields. In the final, a great start by Na Piarsaigh saw them lead at the break by 2 --- 3 to 0 ---1. In the second half both sides scored a further 2 --- 3.

Gavin Connolly and Niall Cashman, grandsons of Mick Cashman, scored the Blackrock goals.

Tom Cashman in presenting the trophy to Daniel McSweeney the Na Piarsaigh captain warmly praised all the boys in all the teams for their efforts.

Well done to Coaches Tom Daly, Sean Logue, James Tyner and Paul Reidy as well as the under 10 coaches of Cloyne, Brian Dillons, Na Piarsaigh, Sarsfields and Douglas for their Trojan work in running off this league over the past 4 months.

The Rockies had beaten Doora-Barefield (Clare) and Durlas Og in the run-in while the Kilkenny side had overcome Na Piarsaigh after a thriller. Paul Delaney was a proud Rocky captain as he accepted the Tim Dennehy Cup from Paul Tobin. A very good Midleton side had a narrow one-point victory over a brave Douglas team in the Plate competition. The high standard of hurling displayed by all the teams was a feature of this competition. The competition was itself organised by J.P. Devine who has to be complemented for his efforts, as the day was a real showcase for good hurling.

Brave Rockies fight to the end".

County Senior Quarter Final.Played at Pairc Ui Chaoimh.Saturday evening August 20th 2005 Blackrock 1 --- 13 St. Finbarrs 2 --- 14.

The Rockies put up a tremendous performance in this rip roaring contest before falling just short in the end. Despite being short a number of  experienced players (Fergal Ryan, Alan Cummins, Joe Young and Liam Meaney) they threw everything at the Barrs and turned a 7 point deficit into a three point lead by the 15th minute of the second half. A penalty brought the Barrs back into it at that stage and the brave Rockies just could not close the gap in the run-in.
